Creative Biz Inspo – Margo Selby!

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to another RT blog post! In the run up to the 8th year anniversary of the Rachael Taylor Studio (keep an eye out for our upcoming post this week!), we wanted to celebrate others who have followed their dreams & been successful with their creative businesses.

We’ve chosen to kick this week off with the wonderfully talented Margo Selby, who is a successful designer running a woven textiles company in the UK:

In the beginning, Margo trained in textile design at Chelsea College of Art and Design, followed by a postgraduate degree at The Royal College of Art. After working as a woven textile designer for industrial mills, Margo realised she had a talent for pairing hand-woven designs with industrial machinery to create her trademark 3-dimensional fabrics. Commenting on her own success, Margo says,

After two years working freelance, I started my business in 2003, developing fabrics on handlooms and then working with mills to produce these into industrially woven fabrics. Opening my store in 2007 was a great feeling. I am very proud to see my scarves in so many gallery stores and get excited each time we have a big hotel commission.

Margo says she’s had no business training in the past, but has come out on top as an extremely successful designer & has created a recognised & loved British brand. We think that Margo’s unique take on the textiles industry, along with her creative passion has made her an incredibly admirable business woman that we want to celebrate! Below are some of Margo’s signature looks across a number of fashion & interior textiles. You can also see her amazing projects, her inspiration & read more about her on her wonderful website!
